8 Days Serengeti Great Migration Safari
Witness one of the world’s natural wonders – the wildebeest migration in the Serengeti. Starting in July, the migration involves a river crossing as the herds move north, passing through the Lobo and Wagakuria areas on their way to Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve.
By September, the wildebeest herds disperse across the northern Serengeti National Park and Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve. Some herds linger in the area, and weather changes may lead them back from the Mara.
Come October, the herds shift southward toward the central Serengeti National Park, traversing the Lobo area of the Serengeti National Park.

General Travel Information
When is the best time to visit Tanzania?

Determining when is the best time to visit Tanzania for adventure isn’t about finding one perfect date; it’s about matching the seasons to your priorities. The ideal time depends entirely on what you want to see, where you want to go, and your budget. Here is a clear guide to help you choose.
Choose the Dry Season (June-October & December-February) for optimal conditions. This period delivers reliable weather, superior wildlife viewing, and perfect beach weather. Be aware that this comes with higher accommodation rates and busier parks.
Opt for the mid-season (March & November) for a balanced approach. You’ll benefit from moderate pricing and fewer visitors. While the weather can be unpredictable and some activities may be weather-dependent, you will still enjoy excellent game viewing and a less crowded experience.
Select the Wet Season (April & May) for the best value. This season offers the most competitive hotel rates and minimal crowds. The heavy rains bring incredibly lush scenery but can also disrupt travel itineraries, making it a choice for the flexible, budget-savvy traveler

Best time to visit the Serengeti
The Serengeti is a top place to see wildlife all year. But the best time to visit Serengeti for you to visit depends on what you want to see.
- June to July: This is the best time to see the wildebeest migration at the Grumeti River.
- September: This is the best time to see the wildebeest cross the Mara River.
- January and February: This is the best time to see the wildebeest calving season on the southern plains.
- November to April: This is the best time for bird watching. Many migratory birds are in the park, and they are nesting. A top tip: the male birds have bright feathers during this time, which makes them easier to spot.
Best time for the Serengeti Great Migration

For the best chance to witness the famous wildebeest migration, plan your trip for the dry season, between July and October. This is when the massive herds of wildebeest and zebra are concentrated in the Serengeti and the Masai Mara. This period is known for the most amazing wildlife action, including the dramatic Mara River crossings to and from Serengeti National Park to the Masai Mara Game Reserve
Frequently Asked Questions: 8-Day Serengeti Migration Safari

When is the best time to see the river crossings on this safari?
Ans: The best time for river crossings on this 8-day safari is from July to October. This is the peak season when the massive herds are in the Northern Serengeti and are most likely to cross the Mara and Grumeti Rivers.
Can you guarantee we will see a wildebeest river crossing?
No, we cannot guarantee a crossing. The Great Migration is a natural event, and river crossings are unpredictable. However, this itinerary is specifically designed to maximize your chances by placing you in the prime Northern Serengeti region for multiple days during the peak season.
Which specific rivers will we visit to see the migration?
This safari focuses on the two most famous river crossing points: the Grumeti River in the Western Corridor and the Mara River in the Northern Serengeti. The itinerary includes game drives in these specific areas to track the herds.
What other wildlife will we see besides the migrating wildebeest?
You will see a tremendous variety of wildlife. The herds attract many predators, so you have a great chance of seeing lions, cheetahs, and hyenas. The parks you visit, like Tarangire and the Serengeti, are also famous for elephants, giraffes, zebras, and many other animals.
