Charming and exceptional value, Sunshine Hotel offers simple accommodation on one of the island’s best beaches.
Regarded by us as one of the best value hotels in the whole of Zanzibar, what you lack in luxury you more than make up for in value.
Located up in Matemwe the hotel also gives guests easy access to Mnemba Island for Zanzibar’s best diving and snorkeling.
Overall a lovely little property that helps make an overall itinerary more affordable.
Sunshine Hotel in Zanzibar
The Sunshine Hotel is a 15-room beach hotel, located in the pretty Matemwe area on the northeast coast of Zanzibar.
Eco-friendly, stylish, and cozy, Sunshine Hotel creates a uniquely chilled-out ambiance that is very difficult to find on this budget.
In every room, you will find a comfortable double/twin bed with a large mosquito net, a private bathroom with shower and toilet, an effective ceiling fan, a strong standing fan, a small bedside fan, a safe deposit box, a stone bench covered with cushions, wooden wardrobe, cool ambient lights, spacious balcony or veranda (except in the garden rooms). There are a range of different rooms, all at different prices:
The Sunshine Suites are located in 3 bungalows, named: Clove, Cinnamon & Coconut surrounded by tropical gardens. There are 4 rooms in each building: two upstairs and two downstairs. Between the bungalows and the sea, we have a swimming pool.
From most of the rooms, you can see the Ocean, and from others – the tropical garden. In all the Sunshine Suites you can relax on the comfortable furniture on spacious balconies or verandas.
The Honeymoon Suite is the most luxurious room, located in a separate building, for extra privacy, right on the beach. It has a garden with a beach banda and a plunge pool on the veranda.
Blue Breeze Suite set above the Honeymoon Suite (in the same building) is the Blue Breeze Suite. Equal in size but instead of a private garden it has a spacious terrace with comfortable furniture and a great view of the Ocean.
The Garden Retreat Apartment is at the back, with a bit of the sea view, but very nicely designed and very comfortable. It has two levels: on the ground floor there is a small “living room” and bathroom, and on the first floor there is a bedroom.
Staying at Sunhine is an excellent way to end a Southern Tanzania safari. With Zanzibar’s accessibility to Selous and Ruaha, hopping over to the island after an enthralling safari full of late nights and early mornings is a must.
Typically Sunshine would combine very well with the authentic Lake Manze in the Selous or Mdonya Old River Camp in Ruaha or both! Combining the Selous with Ruaha gives two very different safari experiences which makes them a brilliant mix.
The Selous is lush, vibrant, and full of waterways where hippos wallow and crocodiles bask, whilst Ruaha is dry and rugged with baobab-dotted horizons and where huge herds of buffalo and elephant congregate.
If however, you are restrained by time or budget then combining the Selous with Zanzibar is the perfect week-long holiday or honeymoon.
With very short times the internal flights are also relatively inexpensive making the South of Tanzania the perfect destination.
Price starts from $ 190 per person
