Sabora is a super luxury permanent tented camp in the Singita-owned Grumeti Reserve in the west of the Serengeti; it’s one of the top lodges in Tanzania and ideal for any Tanzania safari.
The lodge sits on the plains, and in May and June, the area is covered with wildebeest as the migration passes through.
The whole camp takes the feel of a traditional safari camp from the 1920’s, with antique furnishings and carefully designed, spacious tents.
But Singita has certainly put its mark on the camp, with world-class cuisine, a great swimming pool, and an unbeatable safari experience.
Singita Sabora Tented Camp
Singita Sabora is located in the private Grumeti Reserve, an exclusive game reserve adjacent to the western corridor of Serengeti National Park.
There are only three properties in this entire game reserve, all owned by Singita, a world-class safari company in Tanzania.
It is possible to access the three properties in the reserve from Sasakwa airstrip, with scheduled flights from across northern Tanzania and from Dar es Salaam.
The main area of the lodge is raised on a wooden platform, with tented dining areas and lounges packed with beautiful antique furniture.
At the front is a large veranda with views stretching as far as the eye can see across the Sabora plains, and an ideal spot for meals under the stars.
There is a small swimming pool off to the side of the lodge.
The spacious guest tents are set out with views of the plains and are decorated to the highest standard, offering a very luxurious tented safari experience.
The rooms are air-conditioned, have electricity, and feature spacious bathrooms.
The Grumeti Reserve offers exclusive game viewing in open-sided vehicles.
There is also a walking safari upon request, as well as excellent horse riding safaris.
Off-roading is also permitted, allowing you to follow wildlife in their natural habitat for optimal photographic opportunities.
Within the reserve, Singita also offers a mobile luxury camping Serengeti Safari experience – Singita Exolore.
Whilst visiting Singita in their Grumeti concession, it may also be a good idea to combine a stay here with a stay in the National Park itself (Singita Mara, perhaps?).
With the migration occurring throughout the year, the Grumeti region only sees the wildebeest arrive in June and depart by mid-July, so your window of opportunity is limited.
If, however, you are planning on visiting at another time of year, combining Singita Sabora with another camp would give you a brilliant experience.
The herds congregate on the Ndutu Plains from November through March, during which an intense three-week calving season occurs in February.
From here, the wildebeest travel North through the Seronera and Grumeti regions before arriving in Kogatende in July.
Whilst Singita has its property in the North, Singita Mara, which is perfect for witnessing the awe-inspiring crossings seen in documentaries, the National Park does have restrictions on off-roading, and it can become busy.
That’s why combining a National Park camp with a Singita lodge located in their private concession will give you a great blend of the wildebeest migration and exclusive and intimate sightings without too many restrictions.
After an exciting safari at Singita, there are some great options for beach retreats only a couple of hours away.
From the island of Mnemba to the high-class hotels of Zanzibar, nothing quite compares to sipping a cool drink on the beach to relax after your safari.
The island of Zanzibar is full of hotels; however, you need to be careful when choosing where to stay.
Much of the island is tidal, so the beaches are sometimes not what one would expect.
The hotels Xanadu and White Sands offer beautiful villas for honeymoons and larger villas for families, with every amenity one could wish for.
Zuri, however, has the best beach. It is a non-tidal part of the coast, meaning you can spend all day lying on the glistening white sand or splashing in the ocean.
The numerous swimming pools and bars also make for great entertainment throughout the day.
