Serian Serengeti North is exactly what a safari camp should be. Alex has spent a lifetime in the East African bush and knows it like the back of his hand.
It is this kind of knowledge that he demands from his guides and they rise to the challenge with aplomb. It is an adventurous experience with a luxurious edge that no one ever forgets.
Located just minutes from the Mara River, from July to mid-November you will struggle to find a better experience.
Alex Walker’s Serian Serengeti North Camp
The camp opens in the Kogatende region in the north of the Serengeti on the 15th of June and will stay there until early November. Minutes from the Mara River, Alex has chosen an amazing location for his Kogatende camp.
Mara River crossings are considered by many to be the highlight of any Tanzania safari world and you will struggle to find a camp that feels more secluded while being so close to the action.
Alex Walkers Serian, both North and South, gives you the opportunity to be amazingly flexible with your safari trip. He encourages his guests to spend as much time as they can in the bush, and this is where he really sets the bar that the competition is still trying to reach.
There are no set schedules for the safari trips at Serian. If there is an all-day crossing, the other vehicles will come and go but you can stay for as little or as long as you like! Private vehicles for each group are included in the price.
The tents themselves are large, with big comfortable beds (necessary after a long day out!) and ensuite bathrooms with flushing toilets and hot showers on request. As with any mobile tented camp, do not expect opulent luxury.
The feel is more classic safari, with a small library in the tasteful and welcoming communal main area. You will be shocked at the quality of the food that the chefs produce from their tiny kitchen, sourced locally where possible.
A stay here manages to be rewarding, exciting, comfortable, and relaxing at the same time and we don’t think any other mobile-tented camp comes close to matching this. Serian is also one of our most popular Tanzania honeymoon camps.
One of the biggest choices to make when heading on safari in the Serengeti is choosing what type of camp would suit you best. There are some big differences between permanent lodges compared to your mobile camps.
The permanent lodges don’t move throughout the year and have more facilities such as swimming/plunge pools. This makes them perfect for families with children who enjoy spending the middle of the day splashing around in the cool water, yet they do come at a much higher price.
On the other hand, mobile camps are what encapsulates the Serengeti. Permanent lodges can be found all over Africa, but a camp that moves with the wildebeest migration is only found in Tanzania, and we love them!
Apart from being great value for money, their movements ensure you are in the best possible position to view the migration throughout the year. Mobile camps allow you to really immerse yourself in nature and give you that authentic ‘Out of Africa’ feel which is what draws so many visitors to East Africa.
Any of Serian’s camps can be used in a typical Northern Tanzania circuit where visiting the likes of the Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manayra National Park at the start of the trip would be an ideal starting point, however with numerous camps in Kenya, combining both Kenya and Tanzania whilst staying at Serian’s camps gives you the perfect opportunity to maintain brilliant service, hospitality and guiding throughout.
After an enthralling and exciting safari comprising late nights and early starts, nothing compares to resting and relaxing on the beaches of Zanzibar.
Only a couple of hours’ internal flight from the Serengeti, Zanzibar is the perfect mix of culture, excellent hotels, and brilliant cuisine to round off your holiday or honeymoon in style.
For families, Breezes is a great value option to have and if you are on honeymoon, then Xanadu is full of splendor. Zuri is our favorite hotel on the island. From couples to large families, the hotel can cater to everyone, and with a non-tidal beach, plenty of swimming pools, and bars, it has the facilities to keep everyone happy all day.
Price starts at $ 1,245 per person
