Selous Mapumziko Lodge is a budget Southern Tanzania lodge safari. Like a small jewel in the Selous vicinity, near Mloka village, this lodge offers a breathtaking view of the Rufiji River, which runs just a few meters away from the Lodge’s edge.

Provide local foods Tanzanians use in their meals. Like bananas, stiff porridge, sweet potatoes, rice, beans, fish, vegetables, and seasonal fruits.

Selous Mapumziko Lodge has 7 well-finished Mud-Bandas (typical village mud houses) and a wide campsite with a kitchen, toilet facilities, & camping fireplace, where you can gather in the evening for stories over your favorite local beer or wine.

Each Banda has a spacious room and a bathroom with flush toilets and running water.

The roof is made of local grass, keeping the Banda interior cool day and night.

The drive from Dar es Salaam to Selous Mapumziko Lodge takes about 5 to 6 hours and covers 230 km. (150 km on the tarmac and 80 km on a rough but well-maintained road).

It takes less than 1⁄2 an hour from the lodge to Mtemere Southward Gate.

Accommodation

Accommodating up to 20 guests, all rooms feature spacious en-suite bathrooms and are furnished in African decor replicated throughout the lodge.

The rooms comprise two four-poster beds and views of the river, which one can enjoy from the comfort of one’s balcony.

Children and extra bed policy

Children of any age are allowed. Children aged 5 and under stay for free when sharing an existing bed.

Any extra beds or children’s cots/cribs are available upon request and must be confirmed by management.

Nestled in the heart of Selous, Selous Mapumziko Lodge is located in the Savannah grasslands of the Selous ecosystem, just 3 km from the

Mtemere Gate, the main entrance to Nyerere National Park, was part of the Selous Game Reserve, Africa’s largest game reserve.

Designed to blend unassumingly into the surrounding environment, the lodge boasts the stunningly meandering Rufiji River and plains lined with trademark palm trees along the riverbanks.
