Olakira camp, Serengeti

Olakira is one of the finest mobile camps in the Serengeti. It follows the same route as Serian, moving twice a year.

From July to November, they’re in the north of the Serengeti in the Kogatende region. Then, from December to March, they move back down to a fantastic spot in the Ndutu plains.

At Olakira, you are guaranteed excellent guiding, delicious food, and a luxurious yet authentic safari camp. Its position in the north is unbeatable, as you can see the river crossing from the comfort of the camp.

Olakira Camp Asilia

Olakira is a classic mobile Serengeti safari camp. It moves twice a year to follow the migration, and both spots are fantastic.

When it’s based up in the north, you have actual views of the famous great migration crossing the Mara River en masse.

It’s the only camp where you can see the crossings whilst enjoying your breakfast or lunch.  In the south, it’s located in the Ndutu plains near the calving herds.

Olakira is rustic yet luxurious, making it very popular for honeymoons.  It is just what you would expect from a safari camp: a small camp with 8 tents and warm, personalized service.

The tents are fully furnished with flushing loos and nice showers.  It can be thought of as a home away from home in the Tanzanian safari bush!

The manager, Clint, is a big birdwatcher, and he has passed on his wealth of knowledge to his guides, who take great pride in their work.

Olakira is a fantastic camp and offers great value for money in one of the last few remote areas of the Serengeti.

As with all Asilia properties, service and hospitality are of the highest standard, and you will be welcomed as part of the family from the moment you arrive.

With excellent game viewing, brilliant cuisine, and luxurious surroundings in the heart of the Serengeti, you certainly cannot go wrong with Olakira.

If you’re planning on a full Northern Tanzania itinerary,y then a couple of nights by the Ngorongoro Crater is a must.

Olakira combines beautifully with Asilia’s Highlands. The unique bubble-like rooms nestled on the side of Olmoti Volcano offer beautiful views and a perfect base to explore the Crater, hike in the surrounding forests, and visit local Maasai villages.

If you are visiting Olakira during July-October, a visit to the Serengeti’s center is also a great addition to your trip.

Asilia’s Namiri Plains make for the perfect second safari stop. With some of the best predator sightings in Africa all year round, mixing Olakira and Namiri would certainly give you an unforgettable safari experience.

One of the biggest choices to make when heading on safari in the Serengeti is choosing what type of camp would suit you best.

There are some big differences between permanent lodges and your mobile camps.

The permanent lodges don’t move throughout the year and have more facilities, such as swimming/plunge pools.

This makes them ideal for families with children who enjoy spending the middle of the day splashing in the cool water, though they come at a much higher price.

On the other hand, mobile camps are what encapsulate the Serengeti. Permanent lodges can be found all over Africa, but a camp that moves with the Wildebeest migration is only found in Tanzania, and we love them!

Apart from being great value for money, their movements ensure you are in the best possible position to view the migration throughout the year.

Olakira is ideally situated in view of the Mara River from July to October, which would not be possible with a permanent camp.

Mobile camps allow you to immerse yourself in nature and give you that authentic ‘Out of Africa’ feel, which is what draws so many visitors to East Africa.

Prices start from $ 1218 per person
