Best time to Visit Ngorongoro?

Ngorongoro Crater is a year-round destination. The dry season is the recommended season for wildlife safaris.

While rainy season could be the best time for bird lovers and photographic trips.

The Ngorongoro has a mild, temperate climate. Due to the altitude, it’s possible for night-time temperatures to drop below freezing.
 
Even during the day, the crater never gets very hot. so make sure to bring layers to protect you against unpredictable weather.
 

June Through October

During the dry season, you’ll find the vegetation in the crater to be less dense.

This makes wildlife spotting much easier, especially when it comes to big cats.

During this time animals clustered around permanent water sources. This gives an easy option for game viewing with the crater rim.
 
During the daytime the weather is less hot with sun-rays this makes the crater floor reaches a high of 20˚C (68˚F). The afternoons tend to be quite dusty, and a soft light can make for beautiful photographs.

October Through December

The short rains usually last for around a month, any time between October and December. The afternoon showers won’t have a huge impact on your safari.

January

This is also the dry season. The weather is similar to June & July tough January is a bit dryer than June. Is also the best month for game drives and photographic safaris.

February To May

Migratory wildebeest herds calve around February, which attracts plenty of predators. Shortly after, the long rains begin, with thunderstorms and showers in the afternoon.
 
The days tend to be warmer than those of the dry season, with the crater floor averaging 23°C (73°F). And dropping to approximately 6°C (43°F) around the rim.

July to October and December through February. The green session includes March through June. This aspect is much overstated. You will rarely see a snake, but if you do, it will most likely be from the safety of your safari vehicle. Tents and lodges all have bug screens fitted to windows and doors. In most areas where bugs or mosquitoes are prevalent, rooms and tents are also equipped with mosquito nets, adding to the idealistic ambiance. Bear in mind that malaria is a threat in most wildlife areas, and it is necessary to consult your doctor for advice before embarking on your safari.

Note – the migration is a natural event and the timing varies month by month; year by year. A good thing is it won’t happen in one day it takes time to complete. And we update most of our clients once the migration starts, so if your great desire is to witness the migration communicate with us in advance so as we can try our best to assure your encounter. Please note that the vast majority of travelers do not witness the wildebeest crossing of the Mara as the timing and duration varies widely each year.
