Tortilis Camp Manyara

Tortilis Camp is made up of an impressive row of fully furnished tents sitting proudly at the foot of the great African Rift Valley Escarpment, perfectly appointed to gaze over the vast expanse of Lake Manyara.

It’s easy to succumb to the enticing sofa and chair in an exclusive game-watching area in your tent, a serene space to sit back and marvel at the birds dancing over the lake or a troop of elephants passing by. Wildlife surrounds the camp.

Expect to hear the roaring of lions and to receive visits from hyenas and buffalo. Bird lovers, feast your eyes on the many species of migratory storks, ibis, and pelicans, as well as over 90 more species including thousands of flamingoes which have made the lake their home for much of the year along with eagles, hornbills, kingfishers, and weavers.

Over two-thirds of the park is covered by water, so a guided walking tour is a must. Being so close to the hippos and elephants on foot is a thrill, while bird spotting so close to the lake provides the most colorful of spectacles. Waking up in Lake Manyara to experience the sunrise over the lake, you’ll feel you’ve discovered a lesser-known treasure of Northern Tanzania.

Breakfasts are worth getting up for and are enjoyed from the mess tent as the buzzing world comes alive around you. The sumptuous array available for breakfast includes colorful platters of fresh fruit, yogurts, cereals, cold meats, and cheese platters with crackers and biscuits, croissants, cakes, pastries, toast, and spreads. Coffee and teas of the world are of course essential to compliment the first meal of the day and then to really get the best start to the morning, order your favorite choice of eggs or omelets from the chef.

Perhaps one of the biggest challenges of your whole stay at Tortilis Camps is to pull yourself away from the glorious breakfast every morning

The packed lunch served to you by the Tortilis driver guides at the perfect location in the bush will be just the unique meal you may have imagined it to be. You’ll be amazed at the setup we can quickly create in the middle of the bush, sitting in a comfortable chair at a table laden with nuts, fruit, cheese, crackers as hors d’oeuvre followed by creatively prepared main meals and salads from chefs. These meals include some extra tasty spices and vivacious Tanzanian infusions. Lunch back at the Tortilis Camps is also an option every day if you are not away on a game drive or activity

The tents are always a surprise to the visitors, who feel more like they are in a comfortable lodge than in a simple tent. We’ve put a lot of thought and creativity into the layout and interior design, as well as the decoration, materials, fabrics, and items that each of our tents is created from.

The result is a unique East African, spacious and comfortable space to feel welcome in for the duration of your Tortilis Experience. Tents are built to easily withstand the elements. Thick canvas protects against rain, and a system of adjustable tent flaps over mesh windows surround the tent. The tent flaps are easily adjusted to allow maximum airflow during the day.

It’s easy to succumb to the enticing sofa and chair in an exclusive game-watching area in your tent, serene space to sit back and marvel at the birds dancing over the lake or a troop of elephants passing by. One of the reasons the tents are always in such good condition is because of the system of constant maintenance by their own staff.
