Ndutu Safari Lodge

Welcome to Ndutu Safari Lodge, a traditional and authentic safari lodge. Steeped in history and famous for the homely warmth and generous hospitality, Ndutu offers peace, tranquillity, and exceptional wildlife viewing throughout the year. A relaxing day of sampling the resident wildlife near the Lodge, a cozy lunch, and being absorbed in your journal, book, or binoculars from the comfort of our seating areas inside and out, before a romantic dinner outside offers the chance to reconnect with your loved ones, family and friends during your stay.

A more energetic day might begin with an early morning bush breakfast during a game drive in one of many distinct landscape areas within the Ndutu Conservation Area: marshlands, acacia woodlands, soda lakes of Ndutu and Masek or the vast expanse of the Serengeti plains are all within easy reach – each with its distinct wildlife populations and seasonal visitors. The marsh areas for example are favored by big cats to bring up their young, whereas the short grass plains are where Wildebeest babies are born during the Great Migration.

As the sun lowers, join around the famous Ndutu campfire, and watch the sunset spread across the plains and the moon rise above the acacia trees. Or raise a glass or two around the bar to share stories and make new friends. As you return to your cottage full of good food and vivid memories from the day, listen for the haunting call of a hyena echoing through the woodlands before the velvet night brings restful sleep. Ndutu is in an area without tsetse fly ensuring a peaceful stay.

Cottages

They have thirty-four en-suite cottages at Ndutu which range from double, twins, triples, and a quad room, and all are built from local materials. The stone and thatch cottages are naturally cool due to the thick walls, and they provide simple and comfortable accommodation. Each room has an en-suite bathroom with hot showers, a sink, and a flushing toilet. All the cottages have a private veranda overlooking the natural unfenced landscape of indigenous trees and shrubs outside your cottage door ensuring you are never far from the host of birds and mammals who call the Ndutu area home. The cottages extend from a warm and welcoming central dining, seating, and bar or ‘mess’ area which has long been a gathering place for friends old and new.

Dining and Bar

All dining at the Lodge is in the central seating, dining, and bar area which is the heart of the lodge, with views over the broad vista of the plains onto Lake Ndutu in the distance. Lunch and dinner are served at your table with a generous three-course menu of deliciously tempting options for lunch and a hearty four-course dinner served each evening. The central bar serves to mean cocktails, which is a great way to start your evening.

Campfire

The evening campfire is a legendary part of life at Ndutu. For decades, this has been the time and place where after a day’s adventures wildlife photographers, trackers, safari guides, filmmakers, and natural history experts have gathered for the evening calm after a day’s exploration. Sit as the sunset fades across the plains and enjoy a drink or two in the firelight of the daily campfire, share some tasty pre-dinner nibbles and absorb the silence descending around you as night falls before heading inside for your four-course dinner, allowing more time for conversation and relaxation.
